Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd Receives Patent Relative to Fusion Splice


New Delhi, April 26 (2012) -- Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd received Patent for splice protection heater, fusion splicer including the splice protection heater, and fusion splicing method on March 27, 2009. The patent number issued by the Indian Patent Office is 232249.

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd had filed patent application number 4088/CHENP/2006 on Nov. 7, 2006. The inventors of the patent are Sato Ryuichiro, Ito Kensuke and Watanabe Tsutomu.

The International classification number is G02B6/02.

The PCT International application number of the patent is PCT/JP06/311227 and the application was filed on June 5, 2006.

According to the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, "A splice protection heater capable of quickly and efficiently performing a fusion process without an excessive heating time, a fusion 5 splicer including the splice protection heater, and a fusion splicing method are provided. The apparatus has a heating part for heat shrinking a protection sleeve that covers a fusion spliced portion of an optical fiber, a plurality of heating elements that can individually heat a plurality of protection sleeves with different timings by being individually turned 10 ON/OFF by switches, or a heating element turned ON/OFF by a switch. This apparatus may also be provided with detecting section that detects whether or not the protection sleeve is set on the heating element, and turns the switch ON/OFF."
