February 25, 2022 -- ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market and technology research consultancy addressing the fiber optics communications industry, today announced the release of their annual market forecast of hand-held OTDR fiber optic test devices. The new report provides a 10-year forecast of the worldwide market for handheld OTDRs and multiple-test units (platforms) using OTDR modules, as well as supplementary/secondary (add-on) OTDR-based modules.

 An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is a fiber optic test instrument used as a troubleshooting device to find faults in the optical fiber link.

 According to ElectroniCast Consultants, the estimated global consumption value of handheld OTDR devices (dedicated-handheld or modular solutions) and “add-on” (supplementary) OTDR modules in 2021 was $480.22 million.  The consumption value is forecast to increase 4.45 percent annually, during the 1st-half of the forecast period to reach $597.04 million in 2026; and increase further to $680.7 million in the year 2031, with rising quantity growth partially offset by a decline of average selling prices.  All values and prices in this report are at end-user levels and are in current dollars, which include the effect of a forecasted 5 percent annual inflation rate over the forecast period.    

The Asia Pacific region (APAC) held the leadership position in relative market share of worldwide consumption value, last year.  Europe, in 2021, represented a 22.8 percent relative market share of the worldwide consumption value.  Europe's consumption value is forecast to increase at a relatively constant pace throughout the forecast period. The North American region (U.S.A., Mexico, and Canada) had an estimated consumption value of $157.9 million in 2021.

The Rest of the World region (including Central/South America, Africa, and the Middle East) is forecast for an increase (value) movement during the 1st-half (2021-2026), at 11.05% per year, and then increases during the 2nd half at a forecasted nearly 6% annually during the 2nd-half (2026-2031).
