Optical Fiber Splicing Processing Solution (Hot Sulfuric Acid)

Morganville, New Jersey, January 4, 2012 – Vytran introduces “SAS-400,” an optical fiber stripper that uses hot sulfuric acid to remove the protective coating from a fiber while maintaining the fiber’s intrinsic strength.

“With our new SAS-400 optical fiber stripper, Vytran has leveraged the proven concept of its predecessor, SAS-200, but with an increased emphasis on use in manufacturing,” said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, Vytran president and CEO. “We’ve embedded some major improvements in the SAS-400—it’s easier to use, more robust, features an intuitive graphical user interface, and enhanced operator protection.”

SAS-400 is an automated system intended for use in sensing, medical, telecommunications, aerospace and research applications. It can remove a variety of coating types, including acrylate and polyimide. SAS-400 can strip a fiber section up to 40 millimeters long. It can also be used to center strip a fiber, making it useful for fiber Bragg grating manufacture and for metalizing fiber sections.
