Latin America Market Forecast – LED Lighting

According to ElectroniCast, the consumption value of LED lamps in the Latin American region is forecast to reach $348.95 million in the year 2015, representing an average annual growth rate of 42.5 percent (2010-2015)...

Lima, Peru – September 22, 2011  -- ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market research consultancy serving the photonics industry, today announced their 5-year market forecast of the Latin American consumption of light emitting diode (LED) lamps in solid-state lighting (SSL) General Lighting applications. 

According to ElectroniCast, the Latin American region consumption value of LED lamps, which are used in SSL General Lighting, reached $59.48 million in 2010; consumption value will increase at an average annual growth rate of 42.5 to $348.95 million in 2015.  The consumption value will increase with strongly rising quantity growth partially offset by declining average prices in some product categories.

The market for LED Lights in Latin America is new and it is still open for new companies and brands and ElectroniCast is helping clients enter to market in the region. According to the new report, Brazil will take control of the leadership role in relative market share in LED lighting implementation; however, Mexico is forecast to aggressively pick-up on the deployment of government-installed LED-based streetlights.

In anticipation of infrastructure lighting improvements for the World Cup (2014) and the Olympics (2016), and according to ElectroniCast, LED consumption value in Brazil is forecast to increase at a regional leading annual growth rate of 46.7 percent (2010-2015); of which 51.3 percent will be attributed to street-lighting (roadway/tunnel), parking-lot/campus and similar (lamp-type) outdoor general lighting.

ADVA Optical Networking Introduces Industry's First 100G Metro Solution

ADVA Optical Networking launched (September 08, 2011) its 100G Metro solution designed specifically to address the continued fierce bandwidth growth in the metro environment. The new solution is a response to the demands of service providers and enterprises for efficient 100Gbit/s data transport across distances of up to 500km. Fully integrated into the ADVA FSP 3000, the 100G Metro solution increases the capacity of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks while lowering cost and reducing space and power consumption. The foundation of the 100G Metro solution is in its non-coherent 4x28G technology that enables four key efficiencies:

  • Cost Efficiency – Cost competitive with 10 lanes of 10G, the 100G Metro solution offers the lowest cost-per-bit transport available and immediately reduces network costs and expenditures from day one. This cost reduction guarantees lowest operational cost in all data center and metro network applications.
  • Space Efficiency – The 100G Metro solution’s compact design consumes a fraction of the space of today’s 10G devices, requiring less rack and floor space per bit than established solutions. New Patent Announcement: Optical path converting member

Optical path converting member, multilayer print circuit board, and device for optical communication

A device for optical communication including a conductor circuit and an insulating layer formed and laminated, an optical circuit and an optical path for transmitting an optical signal, and an optical element or a package substrate on which an optical element is mounted. An optical path converting member is disposed at the optical path for transmitting an optical signal so as to transmit an optical signal between the optical element and the optical circuit. The optical path converting member comprises a lens and an optical path conversion mirror having an entrance surface, an exit surface and a reflection surface. The lens is provided at either the entrance surface or the exit surface on the side facing the optical circuit.

High-speed image detector appliance in free space optical communication
 
A paper has been published describing the application of very fast image detectors to the fine tracking system of free space optical (FSO) communication has been demonstrated in several projects.

In the near surface of the earth, the influence of the atmosphere on the optical communication system must be considered. The optical communication system must be designed to be able to suppress the influence of atmospheric turbulence.

The authors have used the high-speed CMOS image sensor for the fine tracking system of 15 km FSO communication demonstration. In this study, the authors present the atmospheric influence on the fine tracking detector, and find out the tracking algorithm for the fine tracking detector to detect the centre of the received spot. On analysis of atmosphere turbulence influenced and the experiment data, the authors find that using centroid algorithm in the fine tracking system is better than the centre of mass algorithm. They proposed a new centroid algorithm in the fine tracking system and use this algorithm in the demonstration system. They found it could minimize the atmosphere turbulence influence.

India: Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL) / Ericsson Agreement

… New 3-year contract includes the management of fiber transport

August 1, 2011 – Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd. (SSTL), which nationally operates telecom services under the MTS brand with over 12 million wireless subscribers, extended its current managed services contract with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) in
India. The extension adds four new circles of CDMA wireless networks and a new
three-year contract including the management of fiber transport and wireline
networks in Rajasthan.

Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will be responsible for network optimization, operations and maintenance including field operations and 24/7 network service assurance, and fulfillment network service provisioning, customer problem management and spare parts management.

Channeling the servicing of the multi-vendor networks to Ericsson will lead to efficiencies and improved response time for SSTL and better service for its customers.

Vsevolod Rozanov, President & CEO SSTL, said: "Strengthening our existing relationship with Ericsson, we have entrusted them with the responsibility of managing an additional four circles along with the management of our largest fiber transport and wireline networks. This association is expected to further enhance our efficiencies and ensure quality service for our customers."

Magnus Mandersson, Head of Ericsson's Services business, said: "This is an important milestone for Ericsson in India, as we are extending our relationship with SSTL in three directions: time, geography and scope. For the first time in India, we will manage fiber transport and wireline networks. We welcome the employees who join us and we look forward to setting new standards of network performance for SSTL."

As part of the agreement, 200 SSTL employees in Rajasthan will join Ericsson India.  According to the renewed partnership, Ericsson will be operating MTS' wireless networks in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

In September 2010, SSTL awarded a managed services contract to Ericsson to manage their multi-vendor wireless networks in two circles, Delhi and Haryana. The extended partnership is evidence of the significant cost and quality improvements already realized in the network.
